Review: Hidden by Sophie Jordan

Hidden by Sophie Jordan
Fireflight #3
Release Date: September 11th, 2012
Number of Pages: 272
Publisher: HarperTeen

Jacinda was supposed to bond with Cassian, the "prince" of their pride. But she resisted long before she fell in love with Will—a human and, worse, a hunter. When she ran away with Will, it ended in disaster, with Cassian's sister, Miram, captured. Weighed down by guilt, Jacinda knows she must rescue her to set things right. Yet to do so she will have to venture deep into the heart of enemy territory. The only way Jacinda can reach Miram is by posing as a prisoner herself, though once she assumes that disguise, things quickly spiral out of her control. As she learns more about her captors, she realizes that even if Will and Cassian can carry out their part of the plan, there's no guarantee they'll all make it out alive. But what Jacinda never could have foreseen is that escaping would be only the beginning.... Loyalties are tested and sacrifices made in the explosive conclusion to Sophie Jordan's Firelight trilogy.
Finishing a series can be either extremely disappointing, or satisfying. Once I was done with the entire book, I was happy with the way everything ended, mostly because we get closure with the characters. They all get some kind of ending on their own, knowing that their story line in the novel is done, but we are left we hope for their future. That’s the kind of ending I like, and this is what we got.  I do have to say that I wasn’t completely happy with most of the book. There are some things that did annoy me through the novels, thing I had hoped would have been resolved from the previous books.

My biggest problem was with the characters. Jacinda wasn’t my favorite character in the books, mostly because I got more with the way she treated both Will and Cassian. I know it isn’t really a love triangle because we clearly know whom she loves (we’ve known all along in my opinion), but I just got annoyed at the way she treated them. There’s just something that really make her seem so immature, since she can’t seem to really make her mind about what she really wants. Maybe it’s only me, maybe it’s only because of my timing when it comes to reading the novel, but I just got bored at listening to her never making her mind about her choices. The character I really wanted to see more of is Tamra. I can’t really explain why, maybe it’s because her story isn’t so much focused on her love life, as Jacinda seemed to be in the entire story. Maybe I just needed change.

The plot didn’t really catch my attention. It wasn’t the most interesting plot Jordan could have come up with. I felt like things ended up being too easy for the characters. The books was less than 300 pages, she could have made it a little complicated and longer. I just felt disappointed in that.

Maybe I’m a little harsh; maybe I’m being difficult. I simply was expecting a little more of the book. At least, the ending DID satisfy me, leaving me with the closure necessary for the end of series.

Review: Vanish

Title: Vanish
Author: Sophie Jordan
Series: Firelight #2
Release Date: September 6th, 2011
Number of Pages: 304
Publisher: HarperTeen
Source: Bought
To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.
Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?
In bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s dramatic follow-up to Firelight, forbidden love burns brighter than ever.

I was captivated again by the world of Sophie Jordan. Vanish may not have been as good as Firelight, but it was still pretty good to me.

I felt like this book was less about love and action, but more about the struggle within Jacinda. She has to decide between doing what she is expected to do, and doing what she wants to do.  She has to face her decision. She has also to face the consequences of them. That’s what I really liked about her journey. She doesn’t just get to do what she wants without facing the consequences. The ending was amazingly written. It opens a door for the third book being completely cruel.

The story starts right where Firelight ended. Jacinda can’t seem to have some time to relax before she is forced into something else. I may not always agree with Jacinda’s actions, but I understand where they come from. I enjoy reading about her. She is a great main character, torn between her family, her pride and two amazing guys.

Cassian and Will were both great. I love the strength and personality of Cassian. He was my favorite character in this book. I felt like he really wanted to do what he could so Jacinda would be happy, even if it may not end with his happiness. Will was cute with Jacinda, but I felt like he couldn’t see farther than Jacinda and him. He wasn’t able to see how their decision may affect their family. That’s one of the things that annoyed me with him. It was all about him. Where Jacinda realized that there would be consequences, all he saw was Jacinda. It may be sweet, but it is also stupid to me.

Sophie Jordan’s writing is beautifully fun and captivating. She makes us feel what Jacinda is going through with ease. If you loved Firelight, you will adore this sequel.

Okay, I've wanted to read this book for a while. When I won with, I was so happy. I received it on Tuesday, and I ended up reading it in a couple of hours the next day.

I loved this story. A love supposed to be impossible, yet they each fall for the other. It is a really cute story, and I love the draki factor. I really like this idea, as that was original. Even if I could guess where everything was going, I still had to read it to be sure. I really enjoyed it. The ending made me sad, and now I really want to read Vanish, which makes me even sadder because it won’t come out soon. I’ll have to be patient.

I really liked Jacinda. She is strong and she knows what she wants. Yet, she still tries her best to do things that will protect her family, even thought it is the complete opposite of what she wants. Her sister ended annoying me at the end. I understand that she may have felt neglected while living in the pride, but still, she ends up acting like a bitch with her sister. Will made me smile and sigh a lot. He is so amazing. Yeah, he may be a hunter, but still, there’s a really sweet side of him, a side that made me sigh a lot.

I really enjoy Sophie Jordan’s style. It really got me into the story. It was easy to read, and I just can’t wait to read more from her. Bring me some more draki soon!

This deserves a really nice 5/5!
