Braden was born with witch eyes: the ability to see the world as it truly is: a blinding explosion of memories, darkness, and magic. The power enables Braden to see through spells and lies, but at the cost of horrible pain.
After a terrifying vision reveals imminent danger for the uncle who raised and instructed him, Braden retreats to Belle Dam, an old city divided by two feuding witch dynasties. As rival family heads Catherine Lansing and Jason Thorpe desperately try to use Braden's powers to unlock Belle Dam's secrets, Braden vows never to become their sacrificial pawn. But everything changes when Braden learns that Jason is his father--and Trey, the enigmatic guy he's falling for, is Catherine's son.
To stop an insidious dark magic from consuming the town, Braden must master his gift—and risk losing the one he loves.
First of all, can I say how excited I was to read a YA book where the main character is a male main character? Even better, a gay male character! There are so few! One of the main reasons I found about this book was that I follow Scott Tracey on twitter (and holy smoke is he and Leah Clifford hilarious together.)

I don’t really have much to say about the characters, strangely. None of them really stood out. Trey annoyed me, which isn’t so great when he that important to the main character. Braden didn’t really make me fall in love with him, as a main character. He is still pretty interesting. The others were slightly too in the background for me to really appreciate.

Now, when it comes to the story itself, I did enjoy it. It wasn’t love, but I am excited for what will come next. That’s the thing. I felt like we had the story building, and building and it makes you think that something really big will happen. Yet, nothing big happen.

There were a couple of thing that didn’t really excited me in the book, as there were a couple of moment where I couldn’t get why Braden would do one thing or an other, or why something was presented in one way and not another… Am I losing you?

It was one of those light and fun reads that you could easily read within a day. As much as I wanted to love this book, there were things that did bother me. Still, it wasn’t enough for me to say that I won’t read the sequel. I was just expecting more from it. It was one of these books you simply want to love, but can’t. I really want to know where Scott Tracey will be taking us, because I felt like Witch Eyes sets a story that I could end up loving. Now, we only have to wait and see!

  1. Witch Eyes is definitely a quick read--I read it in about 4 hours one night when sleep just didn't want to grace me with its presence. I'm sad you didn't love it more, but, you can't love every book, right? I do agree that sometimes Braden would do something, and I would be like "What? Why are you doing that?" And yeah, the ending was a bit anti-climactic. But overall, I liked it. Great review, though. You'll read the sequel, right?
